"I'm in so deep."
I have heard these words in conjunction with exactly one topic: fandoms. And also maybe divers, I don't know. But fandoms.
I've noticed that I, as a rule, fall very quickly and very passionately in love with fandoms and their sources when I'm introduced. I was reminded of this just today when I got The Slap from a Nickelodeon TV show.
One of the recommendations I've gotten most often from friends, internet and not(aside from superfandoms like SPN, Sherlock, and Doctor Who...) is a supposed 'kid's show' called Avatar, not to be confused with James Cameron's blockbuster sci-fi that is not in any way better than Titanic. I'm not sure what I was expecting when I managed to find a place to stream the first episode. I'd only seen a few things about Avatar on Tumblr, and I have learned that Tumblr(AKA the Deep Blue Sea of Wank and Misinformation) is not to be trusted.
What I got, instead of the usual bullcrap I expect from Nickelodeon(or at least the kids channel), I got a show that seems well-researched if not sophisticated, emotional if not dark, and genuine, if not Oscar-worthy.
After only two episodes, I'm pretty sure this show has one over on me.
I fell in love similarly with Doctor Who, which I would now rank among my five favorite shows. I was shown the first four episodes, I think, in the bedroom of a friend, sucking on ice pops. I had infected my entire family with NuWho a few weeks later. To this day, Nine may be my favorite....
Sherlock made a pretty big impression, too, as did Harry Potter, PJO, and a dozen other things. Guess you can never quite predict what's gonna hit hardest. All I know is, many of these people have stuck with me, and I get the sense they will for a good long while. Oh, well. Sometimes it's nice having so many visitors living in your head.
I haven't posted as much lately due to incredible screw-ups with school and NaNo, but I'm still going strong. Tell me your stories, if you'd like. Tell me what's made a huge impression on you, fandom-wise or other. Tweak my brain to action.
May your swords stay sharp and your chocolate stocks always plentiful.
